Recommended Websites How To Clean Your Car Engine Besides your car's interior and exterior, the engine should also be cleaned. Over time, your engine develops dirt and grime, and if it stays longer, it becomes more difficult to remove. Bear in mind, however, that cleaning your engine is not the same as washing the rest of your car. Using water can damage delicate electrical wirings and connectors. Below are some tips and guidelines in cleaning your engine: Make sure you park your car in a suitable place where you can clean it. First, warm up the engine for a few minutes, then cover the electrical components of the motor by plastic or foil. Cover air filters, air inlet holes, breather caps on valve and oil filler caps. Disconnect the battery terminals for safety reasons. Scrape and brush some thick debris from the engine surfaces. You can use a plastic brush and flathead screw drivers for hard to reach corners. Then, create a mix of solution of detergent and water in bucket. You have to use a hose to rinse the engine. Do not splash water on the top of the engine. Brush the engine with the soapy solution. Afterwards, you have to use the hose again to rinse the engine. Put a pressure on the water hose so you can rinse and clean the engine thoroughly. The grease might not be easily removed so use de-greaser products which you can purchase in auto shops. Consult your vehicle's manual for material that you can use to clean the engine block and other metal parts. Spray the product and let it soak for a few minutes. Brush it and use a cloth to wipe it clean. You can rinse it and dry the engine thoroughly with hand towels. Remove the cover plastic and let the engine dry. Try to start the engine to see if you did it right. Automotive
